David Schildknecht:" In the sort of situation that sometimes arises with small-production Pfalz Grosse Gewachse and their ilk, Burklin-Wolf sold all of their 2010 Deidesheimer Langenmorgen Riesling trocken PC – save what was reserved for their Vinothek – to one Italian agent. That restriction is bad news for the rest of us considering how good the wine is. (Are there no trade customers for the top dry Pfalz wines who insist on being able to purchase a complete collection of crus? Most Burgundy domaines would on the contrary insist that their commercial clients purchase each bottling proportionally.) Sweet corn in fresh and sour mash guises is accented with sage, fresh ginger and lime peel for a penetratingly pungent and high-toned nose. On a quite full, expansive palate, juiciness of fresh lime and sweet corn mingle with nut oils and crushed stone, leading to a lingering finish. I suspect this is one of those instances where a bit less alcohol (though like its siblings, it’s labeled “13%”) might have made for greater clarity of flavor as well as lift, but this is seriously impressive stuff."
