Stephan Reinhardt:" Sourced from the Schönhell, Jungfer and Hendelberg crus and vinified in large oak for 16 months on the full lees, the radiant, golden-yellow 2018 Hallgarten Riesling R is the first ever made under this label."Some 2018 barrels tasted so special and original that we couldn't assemble them with any of our other wine. So, we decided to let them on the lees," says Peter Bernhard Kühn, who bottled the Hallgarten at the end of March this year. The wine opens with a deep, fine and elegant bouquet with warm yeasty notes and rather coolish herbal notes swirling around the ripe and elegant fruit core. On the palate, straight from the start, the quartzite initiates electric vibes that take over and provide tension to the wine with salt, nerves and grip. This is pure, perfectly balanced, finessed and elegant Riesling on a radiant 1er cru level. The wine has a stimulating but quiet and serious finish that just doesn't stop. This is a spectacular Riesling from some of my favorite vineyards in the entire region. It would be a crime not to buy it. Enjoy this Riesling beauty from Hallgarten over the next 10 or 20 years.
